Sleep Fast, Not Furious: Why Rest Matters on the Road This Easter

Sleep Fast, Not Furious: Why Rest Matters on the Road This Easter

Easter long weekends mean one thing: more cars, longer drives, and packed highways. But while most drivers plan their route and playlist, many overlook the one factor that can make or break the journey - rest and sleep.  Our retail partner OMF has created an incredible campaign called 'Sleep Fast, Not Furious' highlighting the importance of rest and recovery behind the wheel.

Driver fatigue is one of the most dangerous risks on the road being the main cause of 20-30% of car accidents on our Australian roads. It doesn’t come with a warning light, and it can impair your reaction time as much as alcohol. A few seconds of microsleep at 100km/h means driving blind for over 25 metres. That’s all it takes.

At BEDGEAR, we believe performance doesn’t stop at the bedroom, it travels with you. Whether you're an athlete or a parent doing the Easter road trip, quality sleep directly impacts focus, reaction time, and decision-making behind the wheel. Simply put - better sleep = safer driving.

The reality? Many Australians head off on long drives already sleep-deprived, trying to “push through” to their destination. But powering through fatigue isn’t a strategy, it’s a risk.  Here are our 5 tips for safe travel this Easter Weekend:

5 Tips for Safer Easter Road Trips

Prioritise Sleep Before You Leave
Aim for 7–9 hours of quality sleep the night before. A proper sleep setup - breathable fabrics, the right pillow, and temperature regulation can dramatically improve sleep quality and help you wake up refreshed.

Plan Regular Breaks
Stop every 2 hours, even if you feel fine. Fatigue builds gradually, and short breaks to stretch, hydrate, and reset can significantly improve alertness.

Share the Driving
If possible, rotate drivers. Even the most experienced drivers aren’t immune to fatigue, and sharing the load keeps everyone safer.

Watch for Warning Signs
Yawning, drifting lanes, heavy eyes, and slower reactions are all signs it’s time to stop. Don’t ignore them, pull over and rest.

Don’t Rely on Quick Fixes
Coffee and energy drinks are temporary. A 15- 20 minute power nap is far more effective in restoring alertness and focus.

This Easter, don’t just plan the destination, plan your recovery. Because the best trips aren’t just memorable, they’re safe.
